There comes a time when everything must end.  I have lovingly and selectively assembled a collection of early movie glass "coming attraction" slides. Some were bought due to the celebrity. Some were bought for the movie's title and place in film history. Some were bought for the artwork of the graphic. Bottom line, each slide was handpicked and chosen over a run of twenty years. Now is the time for these rare pieces of film memorabilia to grace a new home.  It is not often that a collection of this calibre is put up for sale. Know that there are more slides coming in the next weeks. Opening prices are based on what I paid for the slides over the years.
In 1920 the National Film Corporation released the 15 chapter serial, "The Son of Tarzan". With the Tarzan craze in full swing, any who could, jumped on board. Following the original "Tarzan of the Apes" with Elmo Lincoln in 1918, Kamuela C. Searle two years later did a credible job following up. Interesting note; the young actor, Gordon Griffith who plays the Son of Tarzan as a boy also played Tarzan as a boy in the Elmo Lincoln version.
It is this production that carries the urban legend that the main actor Kamuela C. Searle was killed by an on set accident when an elephant carrying a pole Searle was tied to dropped it. The accident did happen and Searle was indeed badly hurt but actually died in 1924 (according to his brother) of cancer.
So here we have three slides covering three of the episodes. The title slide being the first one and two more; episodes 8 (The Coming of Tarzan) and 10 (The Battle of the Apes) .  Very rare and very hard to come by. At least here are three of the original fifteen. The Serial itself was lost for years but then found in 2002 and restored.
I'm selling all three of the slides as a set which is as it should be. It's up to the new owner to find the other twelve.(Good Luck!) All the slides are in excellent condition. They are all of course the full 3 X 4 inch double glass version, taped at the edges. They all carry color of various applications. Different years means different slide manufacturing companies. All are very acceptable. There glass itself is perfect with no scratches or chips.
POSTAGE INFO: The last piece of information concerns shipping. I am an American but living here in Australia. The bulk of this collection travelled here to Australia with us on the move eleven or so yea
rs ago. That is where the slides will be shipped from.
The base weight for shipping a package to the United States is 500 grams, just over a pound. The charge for that is $20 (U.S.).
Now for 500 grams I can certainly combine multiple slides. Depending on the slides being the double glass version (mid 1924
and earlier) or the cardboard framed variety will dictate the weight and how many I can send at one shipping. At least 5 or 6 slides can be shipped together for the same price. I just have to check the final weight of the box and keep it at 500 grams or less. So the short answer on shipping is; buy multiples and I will always do my best to COMBINE SHIPPING.
In this particular sale it seems that all three of the slides can travel for the one shipping price. The three come in below the 500 gram stipulation.
It is best to use PayPal for paying. Safer for you and for me. As soon as funds clear, the package will be sent out. Be aware that
due to this Covid 19 mess still affecting mailings, shipping could take 4 to 5 weeks. Usually it is quicker but it can take that long.
Bottom line, both the U.S and Australia have Post Offices that work. We have never lost a package traveling in either direction.
Good Luck!
